1988-present: Avia and her husband, Bill, a third-generation Holland Marsh farmer, own and operate their edible horticulture business in the Holland Marsh.
2010-present: Since before being elected to represent the farmers/residents/business owners in Ward 6, Township of King, in 2010, Avia had been a vocal advocate for Edible Horticulture, and Agriculture in general. As the municipal Ward 6 Councillor, Avia’s focus on Council continues to be Agriculture, Environment, and Economic Development.
Avia is serving her fourth term on municipal Council, having been acclaimed in the 2022 municipal election. She is also actively involved in boards and committees outside of Council, including the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (York Region) board of directors, representing King Township; the Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance (York Region); the York Agricultural and Agri-Food Advisory Committee as Chair (York Region); the King Chamber of Commerce; and the Holland Marsh Growers Association.
1982-1993: Avia was employed as a Legal Secretary for a prestigious law firm in Aurora, Ont., until she and her husband, Bill, started a family, and she became a stay-at-home mom, also assuming more responsibilities for running the family farm operation.
1981-1982: Avia attended Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, King Campus, for a one-year course and obtained her Legal Secretary Certificate.
