Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, (AODA) became law in 2005. It sets out various accessibility requirements, also known as Standards, which an organization must meet in order to be classified as accessible. Under the AODA, the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) outlines accessibility standards for areas such as: customer service, information and communications, employment, transportation, and the built environment in relation to the design of public spaces. The built environment in relation to the design of public spaces was added to the IASR in December 2012 to specifically address new construction and major changes to existing open space features.
