Marriage Licencing

Congratulations on your Upcoming Wedding 

Marriage licences are issued through the Clerks Department at the Municipal Office located at 2075 King Road, King City, during regular office hours. 

Appointments are required and may be booked by calling (905) 833-5321. Please allow 30 minutes for the issuance of your marriage licence. 

2017 Fee:    $161.00 (tax exempt) and may be paid by Cash, Interac, Visa or MasterCard.

Applicants must complete the Marriage Licence Application Form and bring the necessary identification.  A Marriage Licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of three (3) months from the date of issuance.

Requirements to Obtain a Marriage Licence:

  • At least one applicant to the proposed marriage must apply in person.
  • The completed Marriage Licence Application must be signed and dated by both applicants.
  • Please ensure that all sections of the application are complete, including the Religious Denomination.
  • Any person who is at least 18 years of age may marry.
  • Applicants who are 16 or 17 years of age are required to submit a completed Consent of Parent or Guardian to Marriage Form signed by both parents (or legal guardians)  when making application for a marriage license. 
  • Two (2) original pieces of identification confirming name, birth date and signature, must be shown for both applicants.  Documents presented in a language other than English must be supported by a translation by an authorized translator.

 

​First piece of identification must be one of the following:

Birth Certificate
Current Passport with photo
Record of Immigrant Landing
Canadian Citizenship Card

Second piece of identification must be photo identification, which can be one of the following:

​Driver’s License
Ontario Health Card with photo
Current Passport with photo
(providing not used as first piece of identification)

 

Previously Married?

If you or your fiance are currently divorced, we require the original divorce certificate or a court certified copy of same. If the decree is in a language other than English, a certified translation must be provided.   A divorce judgement is NOT ACCEPTABLE.  Please contact the Office of the Registrar General for more information regarding requirements for Foreign Divorces.

 

Civil Marriage Ceremonies

Civil marriage ceremonies are performed on alternate Fridays between the hours of 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Ceremonies are performed within the Council Chambers for limited numbers of guests, and are typically 30 minutes in duration. The 2017 fee to perform this service is $275.00 (tax exempt). 

Both applicants are required to attend a pre-consultation meeting with the Marriage Officiant prior to the ceremony. Contact our office at 905-833-5321 for availability of dates. Please review the guidelines below for more information:
