From electronic recycling events and yard sales to community clean-up initiatives and gardening workshops, there's a plethora of activities planned to welcome the warmer season. Residents are encouraged to help preserve our natural surroundings while fostering a strong sense of community by participating in any of the following Township-led initiatives. Community Electronic Recycling Event
Date: Saturday, August 23
Location: King Heritage & Cultural Centre parking lot, 2920 King Rd, King City
Time: 9am-12pm
Cost: Free
Do you have old electronics collecting dust at home? Bring your unwanted electronics to the Community Electronic Recycling to ensure they are disposed of safely, recycled and kept out of landfill. Residents will be required to unload their own items. Collection will be outside of the King Township Municipal Centre in the parking lot. There is no cost for patrons disposing of their electronics during the Community Electronic Recycling Event.
Items Accepted at Community Electronic Recycling Events
Televisions, monitors, desk tops, phones, printing, copying and scanning equipment, stereos, speakers, digital media, video game consoles, projectors, microphones, cameras, calculators, lighting, power tools, small appliances, stationary and portable audio/video systems.
Please protect your privacy by cleaning all personal data and removing batteries from e-waste items prior to dropping them off. For more information on how to wipe your device Click Here.
Battery Disposal will be available. All standard single-use batteries are accepted including AA, D, 9V, button cell etc. Rechargeable batteries are not currently accepted. For safety purposes, please place leaking batteries in a sealed plastic bag, and cover the terminals of lithium batteries with tape before dropping them off in the bins.

Apiary Tour
Date: Sunday, August 24
Location: Cold Creek Conservation Area, Education Centre parking lot, 14125 11th Concession, Nobleton
Time: 1:00 pm-2:30pm
Cost: $19.00 per person
This guided Cold Creek Apiary Tour will take you into the beehive to open and inspect a colony of bees. Learn to identify the queen, brood, larvae, nectar, pollen, propolis and different types of bees in the hive. Learn how bees forage for food and water and what plants are important to them throughout the year. We will talk about native pollinators and their relationship to the environment compared to European honeybees and the challenges they face today. The tour will be led by third generation beekeeper André Flys. *Participants will be provided with a veil to use. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring sunscreen and bug spray. Healing our Soils & Climate with Compost

Learn more about the invisible creatures in the soil and how their activities, supported by compost use, lead to healthier, more fertile soils and a calmer climate. Held in partnership with the Compost Council of Canada.
Cold Creek Community Tree Planting in Partnership with Ontario Streams

Location: Cold Creek Conservation Area, Education Centre parking lot, 14125 11th Concession, Nobleton

For several years, with the help of volunteers like you, Ontario Streams has been controlling Invasive Buckthorn trees and replanting these areas with native trees and shrubs at the Cold Creek Conservation Area. Replacing this invasive species with native stock helps to improve biodiversity by providing habitat for wildlife and providing suitable habitat for understory plants. Join Ontario Streams on September 20th as we plant 400 more trees and shrubs at the Cold Creek Conservation Area.

National Forest Week: Sapling Giveaway (September 21-27)
In celebration of National Forest Week, pick up a free sapling to plant in your yard! Saplings will be available for pick-up from the reception desks at the King Township Municipal Centre, Zancor Centre, & Trisan Centre from September 21-27 during operating hours while supplies last. There is a limit of one tree per person. Please note that pick-up from the Municipal Centre will only be available from September 22-26.
Forest Walk & Tree Printing

Celebrate National Forest week! Traverse the unbe-leaf-ably scenic Cold Creek Conservation Area trails while learning about the important role trees and forest play in our lives. The approximately 45 minute hike is perfect for nature lovers of all ages who are eager to explore various ecosystems. After the walk, leaf with your own unique print created in a fun tree printing activity.
