How do I know if additional support is required?
Extra support may be required for camp or program participation if:
- Extra support is required at school
- Additional support or assistance is required at home for basic personal care needs such as eating, dressing or toileting
- An exceptionality exists that affects mobility, communication, comprehension, social interaction and/or behaviour
- The child is currently diagnosed with a disability
- The participant requires support participating independently in a group setting
- There are behaviours that need to be managed that could affect the safety of the participant or other participants, such as biting, pinching, slapping, or running.
One-to One Inclusion Support
The Township of King is pleased to offer inclusive 1:1 support in camps and year-round programs. A participant with a disability may require additional support for activity accommodation, personal support for safety and care, or to assist with their social and recreational experience. The Participant Intake Form is required to be completed and updated each year to assist the team in preparing interests and accommodations. The Township of King attempts to accommodate requests for additional support, however, due to the number of requests or level of care, support cannot be guaranteed. Families are welcome to consider alternate options of support with a family member or external worker to attend the program. Once support has been confirmed by the Lead Hand – Aquatics and Inclusion Services, then the participant will be registered with full payment of the Township program.
Inclusion support is offered by specially trained inclusion facilitators to work one-to-one with a participant throughout the program. Staff can assist participants by providing modifications in areas such as program instruction, movement, equipment, communication, and promoting socialization with others.
