Programs and events are lined up to put the spotlight on local heritage

In May, as the Ontario Museum Association celebrates Museum Month, King Township invites everyone to embark on a delightful journey through time at the King Heritage and Cultural Centre (KHCC).

Step onto the grounds of KHCC and be transported back to the mid-nineteenth century, where traditional architecture tells stories of days gone by. Wander through the museum's four unique heritage buildings, each with its own tale to tell. The King Horn schoolhouse, dating back to 1861, once echoed with the voices of eager students under the guidance of Walter Rolling, the first Black teacher in York Region, who dedicated 40 years to educating young minds.

As you explore the grounds, you'll encounter the King Christian Church, a serene reminder of the township's religious heritage and the King Railway Station, believed to be the oldest in Canada, offering a glimpse into the region's transportation history. Complete your journey at Laskay Hall, a charming testament to community life in days gone by. (Please note Laskay Hall is currently closed for repairs. It is anticipated to re-open later this summer).

Join us at KHCC this May and discover how museums not only preserve the past but also inspire future generations through education, innovation and the timeless art of storytelling.

From traditional crafts to interactive learning experiences, there's something for everyone to enjoy:

In addition to workshops, visitors can explore two captivating exhibitions at KHCC:

Here’s to the Farmers: the evolution of King Township barns: Celebrating the agricultural heritage of King Township through an exploration of barn architecture and farming history.
