In partnership with the Indigenous Action Committee, King Township will host a community gathering to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on Monday, Sept. 30, at the King Heritage & Culture Centre from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This event will offer an evening of reflection and education, bringing the community together to honor the legacy of residential school survivors, their families and the children who never returned home. The gathering will feature Indigenous speakers, traditional drumming, singing, and dancing, along with food, crafts, and other cultural activities. Attendees can also view a collection of Indigenous artifacts and learn more about their historical significance.

As a symbol of recognition for the lives impacted by the residential school system, participants are encouraged to wear orange shirts. Orange shirts and sweaters will be available for purchase at the event, with proceeds going to the Orange Shirt Society and the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.

Due to limited parking at the King Heritage & Culture Centre, guests are encouraged to park at the King Township Municipal Centre, where a shuttle service will provide transportation to and from the event.
