Road construction on Lloydtown-Aurora Road from Jane Street to Dufferin Street is scheduled to start in early June 2023 and last until mid-August, 2023. There will also be a full road closure from July 4, 2023 to August 12, 2023 to facilitate a culvert replacement.
Description:
- Culvert replacement
- Installation of a larger culvert, which will allow streams and wildlife to pass freely under the road
- A road closure is required to complete this work quickly
- When culvert work is complete, the road will be reopened and the remaining road improvement work will continue
- Guide rail improvements
- Install, remove and replace guide rails that provide a barrier between the roadway and potentially hazardous situations
- Road improvements
- Removal and replacement of asphalt road surface
- Asbestos was used in asphalt mixes throughout the1970s and early 1980s to improve performance
- The risk of exposure to asbestos for workers and bystanders is low
- As a precaution, York Region’s contractor will take protective measures during removal of existing asphalt containing traces of asbestos
Duration:
- Early June 2023 until mid-August 2023
Impacts to travellers:
- Road work
- Weekdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Lane restrictions will be required to complete road improvements
- Access to homes and businesses will be maintained
- Road closure
- Lloydtown-Aurora Road will be closed from Jane Street to Keele Street from July 4, 2023 to August 12, 2023 to facilitate a culvert replacement
- Traffic will not be able to travel through the work zone during the road closure, including emergency vehicles
- Commuter traffic will be detoured to other Regional roads such as King Road and Davis Drive
- Local traffic is permitted, however those with residences and businesses to the west of the culvert location can only access Lloydtown-Aurora Road from Jane Street and those to the east, only from Keele Street
