Township of King, Ont.— Each June, communities across Ontario celebrate June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM). JRPM is recognized by municipalities, community organizations, and schools as a way of promoting the benefits of being active and recognizing the contribution that recreation and parks make to quality of life.
Access to parks and recreation is a fundamental human need that helps foster personal health, strong communities, and social inclusion. JRPM celebrates Ontario’s spectacular parks and recreation services and raises awareness for the role they play as a pathway to individual, community, and environmental well-being.
Recreation Activities
To celebrate JRPM, King Township has lined up 30 days of recreational activities for all ages, abilities and interests. Regular admission fees apply unless the program is noted as free. Highlights include:
- Fitness: outdoor yoga, dance, plus FREE workouts at the Trisan Fitness Centre (on select dates)
- Sports: basketball, volleyball, pickleball, shinny hockey, figure skating and adapted skates
- Indigenous Dot Painting with Métis artist at the King Heritage & Cultural Centre
- Guided hikes, a bird walk and talk, and free disc golf rentals at Cold Creek Conservation Area
- Nature-based workshops, including wildflower and herb planting
- Line dancing, bridge and gentle fitness classes for seniors ages 55 years and older
Parks and Splash Pads
Enjoy outdoor play at one of the Township’s many parks, with varying amenities such as soccer fields, baseball diamonds, skateparks, trails, basketball, tennis and pickleball courts, as well as picnic shelters, (some of which are available to rent). Splash pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Memorial Park in King City, Tasca Park in Nobleton, and Hickstead Park in Schomberg. Trails
With a total area of 339 square kilometres, King Township is home to some of the province’s most scenic landscapes within the Greenbelt and Oak Ridges Moraine, with over 100 kilometers of trails to explore.
