Get ready to turn pages into possibilities as King Township Public Library (KTPL) celebrates Ontario Public Library Week from October 20-26 with a lineup of programming for all ages. From seniors exploring book art to toddlers dancing to storytime tunes, KTPL is offering creative, hands-on programs that spark joy, learning, and connection within the community. There’s something for everyone to enjoy this October—whether you’re ready to craft, explore tech or dive into a new book!

Highlights include:

Book Art Workshop for Seniors

When: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 10:30 a.m. - noon

Location: Schomberg Branch

Learn creative book-altering techniques, from cutting to crafting, to make a custom masterpiece between the covers.

Born to Read

When: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Location: King City Branch

Join staff for a joyful half-hour of stories, songs, and fingerplays for you and your little one, aged 0-2. Call the library to register.

Pathway to Kindergarten

When: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 11:15 a.m.– noon

Location: King City Branch

Prepare your 3-5-year-old for kindergarten with independent sessions filled with stories, songs, and social skills practice. Caregivers stay on-site while the children enjoy learning. Call the library to register.

Maker Club

When: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: King City Branch

Use 3D printers, Cricut machines, and more to create custom Halloween masks and decorations.

Computer Lessons - Microsoft Word

When: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: King City Branch

New to Microsoft Word? Join us for a beginner-friendly interactive lesson. Laptops will be provided, and all ages and skill levels are welcome. This program is presented in partnership with the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Make-It Lab Drop-in

When: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 3:30 p.m.  – 7:30 p.m.

Location: King City Branch

Drop into the Make-It Lab and explore cutting-edge STEAM tech, including a 3D printer, button maker, robotics, Cricut Maker, and more!

Author Q&A: Sadiya Ansari

When: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.

Location: virtual. Register at kinglibrary.ca.

Celebrate Islamic Heritage Month with a virtual Q&A featuring Sadiya Ansari, author of In Exile: Rupture, Reunion, and My Grandmother's Secret Life. Discover the inspirations behind her debut novel and engage in a discussion on identity, displacement, and resilience. Register online for this insightful event, presented in partnership with the Libraries of York and Durham Region.

Dungeons & Dragons Adventure Afternoons

When: Thursday, Oct. 24, 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: King City Branch

Bring your dice and dive into a Dungeons & Dragons campaign focused on monster hunting for food and profit! Create or bring a Level 3 character and join our free weekly adventure.

King Spice Club

When: Thursday, Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m.  – 7:30 p.m.

Location: King City Branch

Explore the historical and cultural impact of a different spice each month at the King Spice Club! Enjoy learning about the origins of each spice and leave with new recipes and a sample to try at home.

Lunchtime Virtual Reality Haunted House

When: Friday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. – noon

Location: King City Branch

Get your scare on during lunch! Stop by the King City Library and tour a spooky virtual haunted house with our Oculus VR headset.

A KTPL library card offers a multitude of benefits, including the ability to borrow a wide range of materials, check your account remotely via the library’s website, request email notifications for holds, remotely access the entire digital collection—including eBooks, eAudiobooks and databases—and utilize printing services.

Library memberships are free and open to:

  • Anyone who owns property or lives in King Township
  • Individuals who work in King Township
  • Students attending school in King Township

Obtaining your library card is simple – just bring a valid piece of identification with your name, photo and current address to your nearest KTPL branch in King City, Nobleton or Schomberg.
