There will still be plenty to do in King, including hitting the trails

With Family Day just around the corner on Monday, Feb. 19, King Township residents are reminded that certain municipal facilities will be closed for the holiday.

Both the King Township Municipal Centre and all library branches will be closed on this day.

Despite the closures, there are still ample recreational activities available throughout King Township.

There will be a family stick and puck skate from 9:30 a.m. -- 11 a.m. and youth shinny from 11 a.m. – noon at the Nobleton arena on Feb. 19. For details and links to online registration, visit king.ca/dropinprograms

The Trisan Fitness Centre in Schomberg will welcome residents from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Family Day. This presents an excellent chance for individuals to engage in physical activity and maintain their fitness regimens during the holiday.

For those eager to embrace the winter weather, Cold Creek Conservation Area in Nobleton offers an idyllic setting. Families can spend quality time together outdoors while appreciating the natural beauty of the area.

The chalet at Cold Creek will be open Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18 (paid, first come, first served) for snowshoeing with two of the trails being open (green and red). The blue trail is currently closed due to trail conditions.

On Monday, Feb. 19 there will be free rentals with the same conditions as the weekend—snowshoeing only on the green and red trails—but people can cross-country ski in the open area. This is an opportunity to come try out cross-country skiing in an open area.

King Township also boasts an extensive network of trails spanning over 100 kilometres. These trails provide an excellent opportunity for residents to reconnect with nature and enjoy the great outdoors, regardless of the weather conditions.

Residents seeking more information about the trails available in King Township can visit king.ca/trails for further details.

Residents seeking to add a furry friend to their family are encouraged to attend the Animal Adopt-a-thon hosted by King's partner, Vaughan Animal Services. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 70 Tigi Crt., Unit 47 in Vaughan. No appointment is necessary. Visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices to view the dogs available for adoption.

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is also happening on Saturday, Feb. 17. The GBBC is an annual four-day event that engages birdwatchers of all ages throughout the world counting birds. Anyone can participate from beginners to experts. The local event is happening at the Dufferin Marsh in Schomberg. Meet at the bulletin board on Dr. Kay Drive at 9 a.m. For more information visit dufferinmarsh.ca.

In the event of any urgent matters during the closure, residents can contact 905-833-5321. Additionally, many services are accessible online through the township's website, king.ca, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
