Outgoing Chief leaves a lasting legacy of community care and service

Township of King, Ont. King Township’s Fire Chief Jim Wall will retire at the end of this month after almost four decades as a firefighter. Chief Wall has served King Township with distinction for 16 years, including the last 12 years as Fire Chief. His career, spanning 39 years, has been marked by his unwavering commitment to citizen care and community service.

Chief Wall began his firefighting career as a volunteer in Schomberg in 1986 and became King’s first full-time Deputy Chief in 2008. He became Fire Chief in 2012, leading King Fire and Emergency Services with a mission of duty, trust and honour. Under his leadership, the department has become one of the most highly regarded volunteer fire services in Ontario.

Chief Wall has overseen critical areas including fire and life safety education, fire prevention, investigation services, fire suppression, medical aid response and specialized rescue services. In addition to personally attending thousands of calls, he provided inspired leadership during a large industrial fire in Schomberg in 2019 and at King Township’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic which resulted in 70,000 vaccinations given to the public.

As King Township grew, Chief Wall was instrumental in preparing the service for new challenges, including high-rise firefighting and advanced rescue techniques. His commitment to the community and his team has left a lasting legacy.

King Township thanks Chief Wall for his years of dedicated service and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
