A Freedom of Information (FOI) Request, also referred to as an Access or Correction Request, refers to requests for information under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act ("MFIPPA"). The purpose of MFIPPA is meant to hold local governments, agencies, boards, and commissions accountable while protecting personal information. The public can request information under MFIPPA. Requests are processed by the Clerk's Division.
The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act came into effect on January 1, 1991. It applies to municipalities and local boards. MFIPPA provides individuals the right of access to general information and right to request correction of personal information as collected by the Township of King, subject to certain exemptions.
The administration of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act falls under the responsibility of the Township Clerk in the Clerk's Division.
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request must be made in writing. You may either complete a request via our online form or write a letter addressed to the Township Clerk.
You can fill out the online Freedom of Information Form. You will need to:
Provide your name, address, and a telephone number where you can be contacted if there are any questions about the request.
Be as specific as possible when describing the records you want to access.
If you are requesting your own personal information, be sure to provide your full name and any other names that you have used in the past.
If the request is for general information (not your own personal information), pay the $5 application fee. This fee must be paid before the request will be processed.
The form must be accompanied by the prescribed $5 application fee.
The Township of King has some information available to the public for free which is known as Open Township Data. This information is open for anyone to access and does not require an application or any fees. See below for current data resources available:

Note: This phone number will connect you to the Service King desk of the Township of King. You will need to ask to speak to the Freedom of Information Coordinator. In addition to providing a right to access information held by Township of King, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act also provides a right to request correction of personal information. Routine changes or corrections to personal information such as a new address or new telephone number do not require a formal request under the Act. Simply contact the Township of King that has the information and inform them of the change or correction. If you believe the information that Township of King has about you is untrue or misleading, you can make a request under the Act to have it corrected. Even if the Township does not agree to change the information, it must make a note on your file that you have requested the change.
A request to correct personal information must be made in writing. You may either complete a request form or write a letter to the Township indicating that you are making the request under the FOI Act. You can print the Request to Correct Personal Information form that is provided on this web site. Detailed instructions on how to complete the form are provided with the form.
Whether you are writing a letter or completing a request form, you will need to:
Provide your name, address, and a telephone number where you can be contacted if there are any questions about the request.
Identify the information that you believe is incorrect and give the correction. Be as specific as possible.
Sign and date the request form or letter.
Send the completed request form or letter to the FOI Coordinator of the Township of King
When to Expect a Response
MFIPPA requires the Township to respond within 30 calendar days of receiving your request. The response will either provide the requested information or explain why the information is not being disclosed. In the case of a request for correction of personal information, the response will either state that the correction has been made or advise that the record has not been corrected but it has been annotated. The 30-day deadline may be extended if, for example, large volumes of records are involved or if third parties need to be consulted.
Appealing an Access Decision
If you are not satisfied with the decision by the Township, you may appeal that decision with the Information Privacy Commissioner’s Office, within 30 days of receipt of the decision letter and request a review. The appeal fee is $10 for personal information requests and $25 for all other requests. The appeal fee must be sent to:
