Township of King, Ont.— The Township of King has cancelled the Holland Marsh Soupfest, an event where attendees enjoy soups prepared by home and professional chefs, due to a shortage of soup makers.

Held in the Holland Marsh, Soupfest was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to gathering restrictions. The Township, vendors, soup makers and sponsors were optimistic the event could return in 2022.

King was not able to locate enough soup makers to make the event a success. Many restaurants indicated they are no longer in business or do not have enough staff to spare for the event.

The Township will get input from the community on creating a new fall event for 2023. Township events can be found at www.king.ca/communitycalendar.

“Cancelling the Holland Marsh Soupfest event was a difficult decision and not the outcome any of us wanted to see. It is indicative of the current challenges being felt in many of our operational areas as many vendors were either forced to close during the pandemic or cannot obtain enough staff to continue their day- to-day operations in addition to participating as they have in the past.

“I want to thank our sponsors, vendors and soup makers who for years have made this event a success. Thank you, also, to the many people who have enjoyed the Holland Marsh Soupfest over the years. King will be creating a new signature fall event for 2023 with input from our community.”
