Township of King, Ont.— King Township is proud to announce that it has received the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget presentation for the fourth consecutive year. This prestigious award reflects the Township's commitment to the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
To receive this award, King Township's budget was evaluated on its effectiveness as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. The budget documents were rated “proficient” in all four categories and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.
With over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program, King Township's achievement sets an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
Notably, the 2025 budget marks King’s first time issuing a service-based budget. This approach enhances accountability by allowing citizens to clearly see how funds are allocated to specific services that directly impact their daily lives. It also supports the Township’s Corporate Strategic Plan (2023-2026), ensuring resources are directed to meet critical priorities.
The 2025 budget organized expenditures into six service areas: Maintaining King, Serving King, Keeping King Safe, Greening King, Governing King, and Planning and Growing King.
The 2025 budget underscored King Township’s commitment to delivering essential services and infrastructure investments, with highlights including enhanced snow removal and road maintenance, investment in parks and sustainability initiatives, improvements to fire and emergency services and support for recreation programs and cultural events.
King Township engaged residents through multiple public consultations, including an online budget book and an in-person open house, providing valuable feedback that helped shape the final budget. For more details on the 2025 municipal budget, visit king.ca/budget.
