Mayor’s Youth Action Team partners with King Township to host Youth Opportunity Fair at Zancor Centre on April 10

Learn about job and volunteer opportunities and enjoy free recreational sports, skating and swimming

Township of King, Ont.— Are you a youth between the ages of 13 and 18? Need volunteer hours for your high school requirement or looking to land your first part-time job? Deciding on a college or university? Want to find a fun new activity to do outside of school? Attend the Youth Opportunity Fair hosted by King Township’s Mayor’s Youth Action Team (MYAT) in partnership with King Township, on Thursday, Apr. 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Zancor Centre, located at 1600 15th Sideroad in King City.

Enjoy free refreshments (while quantities last) and door prizes and meet with over 25 local businesses and community groups specializing in a range of interests, from arts, gardening and robotics to finance and cosmetics. Discuss post-secondary program opportunities with representatives from Seneca Polytechnic and Brock University. Speak one-on-one with King Township staff about aquatic programs and jobs as well as environmental initiatives or meet the crew from King Fire and Emergency Services. Also in attendance: representatives from the King Chamber of Commerce, York Regional Police and York Region.

Throughout the event, free drop-in recreational programming will be available to ages 13 to 18. Youth are asked to check in with customer service prior to participating in a program; pre-registration is not required. The programming schedule includes:

Recreational sports:

  • Open turf (soccer, lacrosse, frisbee – your choice!) from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30p.m. 
  • Open turf (soccer, lacrosse, frisbee – your choice!) from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 
  • Pickleball from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. 
  • Basketball from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 
  • Badminton from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

The surrounding track (with designated lanes for walking and running) and access to fitness equipment are also available from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Recreational swimming:

  • Public swim from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  (open for all ages; only youth are free)
  • Youth public swim from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. 

Recreational skating from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This is a free event. Registration is not required, and parents are welcome to attend. For more information, including a full list of organizations attending, visit king.ca/YOF.

​MYAT was formed in 2015 and is a voluntary group of young individuals between the ages of 13 to 18 (Grade 9 to 12) whose goal is to support and recognize their fellow youth and ensure that young voices are heard throughout the Township of King.
