Mayor's Youth Action Team

​The Township of King's Mayor's Youth Action Team (MYAT) formed in 2015 and is a voluntary group of young individuals between the ages of 13 to 18 (Grade 9 to 12) whose goal is to support and recognize their fellow youth and ensure that young voices are heard throughout the Township of King. The Main objectives of the Mayor's Youth Action Team are:​

  • To act as an advisory body to the Mayor and Council on matters which have an impact on youth in King.
  • To identify and bring forward issues​ which will have an impact on King youth.
  • To foster a positive image of youth in our community by participating actively in community events and activities in King.
  • To promote positive meaningful activities for youth in partnership with the community.
  • To act as an advocate for youth issues.
  • To encourage youth to become more familiar with the workings of local government through education, involvement and participation

 MYAT Application Form

Applications are now open for the MYAT 24/25 term; deadline is Friday October 4.  

Meetings will take place at the King City Library from 3:30pm - 4:00pm starting on Wednesday October 16 and will continue on a bi-weekly basis.

MYAT members will have the opportunity to host the annual Youth Opportunity Fair, plan National Youth Week activities, provide feedback on youth related items in the community, assist with community events.

MYAT members will receive volunteer hours for meetings and all events.

Youth Opportunity Fair

Are you a youth between the ages of 13 and 18? Need volunteer hours for your high school requirement or looking to land your first part-time job? Deciding on a college or university? Want to find a fun new activity to do outside of school? Attend the Youth Opportunity Fair hosted by King Township’s Mayor’s Youth Action Team (MYAT) in partnership with King Township, on Thursday, Apr. 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Zancor Centre, located at 1600 15th Sideroad in King City.

Enjoy free refreshments (while quantities last) and door prizes and meet with over 25 local businesses and community groups specializing in a range of interests, from arts, gardening and robotics to finance and cosmetics. Discuss post-secondary program opportunities with representatives from Seneca Polytechnic and Brock University. Speak one-on-one with King Township staff about aquatic programs and jobs as well as environmental initiatives or meet the crew from King Township Fire and Emergency Services. Also in attendance: representatives from the King Chamber of Commerce, York Regional Police and York Region.

Spots for vendors from youth-serving organizations are now full. However, vendors can still email volunteers@king.ca to be added to a waitlist.

National Youth Week

Every year the Township of King supports National Youth Week. National Youth Week is May 1 – 7 every year, it is a week dedicated to the celebration of youth and their active participation in their community. Whether it is recreation, drama, sport, dance, civic engagement, art, volunteerism or leadership, everyday young people are involved in meaningful activities during their discretionary time. National Youth Week is a time to honour their involvement! Stay turned for a variety of activities for youth week!
