King Township is ready to usher in the holiday season and is reminding residents about facility closures and alternate hours. The King Township Municipal Centre will be closed as of 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23 through to Wednesday, Jan. 1. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted. ServiceKING will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 8:30 a.m.
During the closure, calls regarding an urgent Township matter requiring immediate attention will be connected to the after-hours answering service. There will be no waste collection on Wednesday day, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1. Waste collection schedules will shift ahead one day. For example, usual Wednesday collection will take place on Thursday.
King Township recreation facilities and libraries have varying hours of operation over the December Break and will be closed on the following statutory holidays: Monday, December 25 (Christmas Day), and Monday, January 1 (New Year’s Day). King Township Public Library branches are also closed on Tuesday, December 26, Boxing Day). Hours of operation for King’s three recreation facilities can be found at king.ca/facilities. Hours of operation for King’s three libraries are available at kinglibrary.ca.
Free overnight parking
King Township has road safety and responsible celebrating top of mind ahead of the winter holiday season. Overnight parking on Township streets and at municipally-operated facilities—including all community centres, arenas and libraries in King City, Nobleton and Schomberg—will be permitted on the following days:
- Tuesday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve)
- Wednesday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day)
- Tuesday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve)
- Wednesday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day)
In light of this, parking tickets will not be issued on the above dates.
This means that winter parking restrictions, which prohibit on-street parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m to allow for snow clearing, will not be enforced on these days. Additionally, on-street parking permits traditionally required for overnight guests will not be required on these days. We kindly request that the public be courteous and avoid blocking driveways or parking in prohibited fire routes.
However, in the event of a significant snowfall, residents and visitors are reminded that they assume the risk of on-street parking as King’s snow removal crew will be required to plow roads and sidewalks as best possible and, unfortunately, will not be able to treat assets that are obstructed; the Township is not liable for any damage caused to vehicles parked on-street during road servicing.
